Gethsemane Print

The garden of Gethsemane is poignant moment from the bible with a deeper meaning than what is on the surface.

Shortly before Jesus's capture and ultimately his torture and death, he went alone to pray in the olive groves of Gethsemane. In this moment we are reminded that although this is God inhabiting flesh he still has to live the pains of any ordinary human.

Jesus knew what he was going to have to go through "and being in anguish he prayed more earnestly and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Jesus in this moment experienced hematohidrosis. Hematohidrosis is a condition in which blood vessels that feed the sweat glands rupture, causing blood to mix with the sweat, under the condition of extreme physical or emotional stress. Jesus knew what he would have to endure and even asked "Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.".

This print is a reminder to all of us, God knew the suffering he would have to endure for our sake, and yet he still willingly chose to do it. That is love.
