The burning bush (or the unburnt bush) represents Gods miraculous power, his overwhelming light and his ability to both create and destroy. Moses encountered Gods presence which had manifested through this burning bush. He had been chosen by God to fulfil His wish, to deliver His people from slavery. God commanded that Moses be His conduit to deliver His people from the oppression of the cruel, polytheistic rule of the Egyptians, who had forced them into slavery. 

When Moses first encountered the bush a voice called out from its centre, and when he attempted to approach it he was commanded to remove his shoes, for this ground he was upon was now holy with Gods presence. Moses hid his face for he was afraid to look upon God, for His power was overwhelming.

When Moses asked who do I say has sent me when my people ask, God responded " I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you."  "I AM" implies He was, and is and always will be, it conveys His dominion over all things, His ability to be whatever it is He so desires, and His eternal nature, the Hebrew people would have understood this to be a declaration of his omnipotence and authority.

Gods appearance in the form of this burning bush is a representation of God hearing and responding to his peoples cries and his willingness to deliver us all from our oppressions.
